Arts and Humanities - 6th Period
(STEAM Class)
Commedia Dell'Arte!
In our first STEAM class of the school year, the Third Period 7th Grade bravely explored:
"Commedia" is the medieval form of Italian theatre that gave birth to many forms of comedy we know today (such as "slapstick"). Actors wear masks to portray a handful of "stock characters," each character having a specific set of quirks and habits.

Our JCS students researched their characters, wrote (or adapted) scenes, made their own paper mache masks, and played their roles brilliantly in a performance for several parents and the other 7th grade class. Every single student not only participated, but stepped (leapt!) outside his or her comfort zone - and had a great time doing it! I am so very proud of each and every one of them.
